What Matters Most (continued)

The way we give our love to God is by giving our life to Christ. We first admit the fact that we have given our attention and affection to things in the past that don’t matter nearly as much as God. This is called repentance. Repentance means bringing the broken pieces of my past to God. Repentance means saying, “God, forgive me for ignoring you and forgive me for the choices that I’ve made that have hurt myself, others, and even You.”

After we have made that confession, we express our heart’s desire to love God wholeheartedly by privately declaring “Christ, I give you my life.” This is the surrender part of loving God. Surrender means that we simply want God to direct our lives. This means handing over control to Him. Repentance says, “God, I got it wrong.” Surrender says, “God, make it right.”
