What Matters Most (continued)Well, how do we love anything? We give it our time. We give it our attention. We give it our energy.
If we love football, we’ll buy the season tickets six months in advance, show up for the game 4 hours early to tailgate, and then spend time talking about how good or how bad the game was with friends the whole week afterwards. While we’re at the game we will cheer as the team runs on the field, we will sing the fight song with passion, and we’ll high five an absolute stranger when our team scores a game-winning touchdown. Do you see it?
We give it our time. We give it our attention. We give it our energy. We love it.
But Jesus didn’t say to love football – or anything else for that matter – with all of our passion, prayer, intelligence, and energy. He said we are to love God that way, and we are to love people that way.
So let me just ask you straight up – Do you love God? I mean do you really love God wholeheartedly?
If your answer is no, then you aren’t in line with Jesus’ answer.
